The ONI 266 Betacham jean marks a warm-weather evolution of one of ONI's most beloved fabrics. With summer in mind, Oishi-san revisited the brand's popular indigo chambray from previous years and pushed it a step further — developing a rare double-dyed selvedge version that captures the same honest hand feel with a completely new visual identity.

The Betacham fabric is ONI's specially developed double-dyed selvedge chambray, woven at low tension for a textured surface and structured hand feel. Heavier than traditional chambray, this 8oz weight strikes the perfect balance — breathable and lightweight for warm-weather climates, yet substantial enough to hold its shape and character across long days of wear. Intentionally woven with irregular cotton yarns, the fabric breaks away from the typical flat, smooth impression of standard chambray, offering a vintage look with real dimensional depth.

What makes double dyeing special is that both the warp and weft yarns are dyed — rather than the single-dye process common to most denim and standard chambray. The result is a fabric with color on both sides and, thanks to the doubled dye content, a richer, more dimensional fading character as the garment ages.

The name "Betacham" comes from the Japanese word "beta-na" (ベタな) — a term conveying something plain, uniform, or lacking variation. Where traditional chambray uses colored warp with white weft to create a textured two-tone look, Betacham weaves both threads in the same color — resulting in a flat, uniform tone that reads almost as if the fabric were painted in a single hue. A deliberate departure from convention, quietly executed.

The silhouette is ONI's 266 relaxed straight fit — offering a high rise, a comfortable, slightly generous top block through the thighs, and a wide leg opening that falls cleanly and straight through the hem with no taper. A modern classic profile that pairs equally well with sneakers, boots, or heritage footwear.

Details reflect ONI's commitment to considered construction. The jeans feature ONI branded donut buttons, hidden coin pocket rivets, raised belt loops, canvas pocket bags, a waxed cowhide leather patch, and the classic red selvedge ID. The fabric has been one-washed, so no further shrinkage is expected. A limited production run.

Fit Notes: This model fits true to size for Oni and most Japanese brands. Compared to most global American brands, a size 42 fits similarly to a Large. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart and comparing it with your best-fitting jacket to find the perfect size. The fabric is unsanforized but the jacket has been one-washed, so no shrinkage is expected.
