Built in Japan at Moonstar — one of the last remaining vulcanized sneaker factories in the world — the John Lofgren Champion Sneakers in Solid Olive celebrate timeless utility and understated style. The monochromatic olive design draws direct inspiration from vintage military training gear: simple, functional, and built to endure.
The upper is constructed from 100% cotton 12oz premium chino selvedge fabric, milled in Japan — offering a substantial, structured feel rarely found in modern canvas sneakers. Every edge and stress point is reinforced with fabric tape and double stitching, ensuring long-term durability across years of daily wear. Small details reflect the same quality throughout: Japanese-made eyelets and vents, a dense sponge insole, and double-stitched sewing applied to every seam.
The Champion is built on a traditional Japanese process that has all but disappeared from modern footwear production. At Moonstar, each pair is kiln-fired at 120°C for approximately 70 minutes, a labor-intensive vulcanization process mastered by only a handful of skilled artisans. This method ensures a perfect bond between the rubber sole and the upper, producing sneakers that are flexible, durable, and built to retain their shape over time — a level of construction that cannot be replicated by modern mass production techniques.
Moonstar has over 150 years of shoemaking history, and continues to uphold this rare manufacturing tradition to deliver footwear that balances heritage, function, and timeless design. The sneakers are built on the Champion last with a D / Medium width and finished with vulcanized double-layered rubber soles. Each pair is presented in a Japanese-made John Lofgren Bootmaker box.
Fit Notes: John Lofgren sneakers use sizing similar to Moonstar, which runs slightly large. We recommend sizing down one from your usual US size — especially if you are between sizes or prefer to wear these with thinner socks. If you have wider feet, you may prefer to stay with your usual size for a more comfortable fit. As always, we strongly recommend checking our size chart to find your perfect fit.
